The Glykon: A 2,000-Year-Old Name on a Modern Microtech OTF Knife

The Glykon: A 2,000-Year-Old Name on a Modern Microtech OTF Knife

Microtech Auto Glykon isn’t just another out-the-front — it’s the first Microtech with a tri-sided X-Button: deploy or retract from the spine, left side, or right side. That’s why it’s fully ambidextrous and why the name fits so well.

Glykon (or Glycon) was an ancient Roman snake god from the 2nd century AD. His cult was founded by the Greek prophet Alexander of Abonoteichos. According to the satirist Lucian, the “god” was at first a puppet or a trained snake with a puppet head — a hoax that still drew huge crowds. The cult spread from the Aegean to Antioch and beyond; Roman coins were minted with Glykon’s image, and even Marcus Aurelius was said to have consulted the oracle. A marble statue of Glykon was later found in Constanța, Romania, and the deity even made it onto a Romanian banknote in the 1990s. So “Glykon” carries a mix of myth, empire, and a bit of notoriety — a sharp, memorable name for a knife that stands out.

The Glykon T/E gives you a 3.75" tanto blade in Bohler M390 with a stonewash finish, black aluminum and gray titanium handle, tip-down clip, and that unique tri-slide system. Built in the USA by Microtech (Tony and Sean Marfione). For EDC or collection, it’s a piece with a story — both in history and in your pocket.
